When to see a doctor
- You have just hit your head and are now more irritable, confused or not yourself: call 911.
- You are acting in an abusive or violent way, or struggling to cope with anger and what you try is not working: see your doctor.
- Low mood for more than 2 weeks, or feeling irritable and intolerant of others with it: see your doctor.
- Spells of days or weeks with very high energy, little need for sleep, racing thoughts, and feeling very irritable or aggressive: see your doctor.
- Anger since a frightening event, with flashbacks, nightmares, or being more irritable than usual: see your doctor soon, and read the After trauma plan.
- More irritable ever since an old head injury: see your doctor.
- Using anabolic steroids and unable to stop, or anger that comes with drink or drugs: see your doctor.
- Violence at home, or a partner who is afraid of you: a men’s group program comes first, through your doctor or a domestic abuse service, before any couple’s work.
