When to see a doctor
  • Call 911 now: chest pain that is tight, squeezing or will not go away. Or pain spreading to an arm, the neck, jaw or back, or with sweating or breathlessness. It can be the heart even when it feels like indigestion.
  • Call 911 now: vomiting blood or what looks like coffee grounds, black, sticky or tarry poop, or severe belly pain.
  • Urgent care or your doctor today: trouble or pain swallowing, food sticking, throwing up again and again, or feeling full after a very small amount.
  • Urgent care or your doctor today: weight loss without trying, or a lump in your belly.
  • Your doctor: heartburn most days for 3 weeks or more, or heartburn that pharmacy medicines and habit changes are not fixing.
  • Your doctor: low iron on a blood test, or symptoms that come back after stopping a PPI.

I am not a doctor. This is not medical advice. This is self-education. Every dose on this page is the one a trial or a label used, quoted from it. It is not a prescription. Talk to a physician who has your history before any medicine or procedure. Chest pain that could be the heart, trouble swallowing, vomiting blood or black poop: get help first.
