When to see a doctor
- Call 911 now: swelling of the lips, mouth or throat, or struggling to breathe after food. That is an allergic reaction.
- Call 911 now: bleeding from your butt that will not stop, or a lot of blood or clots in your poop.
- Urgent care or your doctor today: black or dark red poop, or bloody diarrhea. Severe diarrhea with dizziness or dehydration needs urgent care.
- Your doctor: losing weight without trying, low iron, B12 or folate, lasting tiredness, or mouth ulcers that keep coming back. Ask for the celiac test.
- Your doctor, for the celiac test: you have type 1 diabetes, autoimmune thyroid disease, or IBS symptoms.
- Your doctor, for the celiac test: a parent, brother, sister or child has celiac disease, even if you feel well.
- Before the test: keep eating gluten. Do not go gluten-free, even on a positive blood test, until a specialist confirms it.
I am not a doctor. This is not medical advice. This is self-education. Every dose on this page is the one a trial, a label or a guideline used, quoted from it. It is not a prescription. Talk to a physician who has your history before any supplement or diet change. Weight loss, blood in your poop or low iron: see a doctor first.
