When to see a doctor
  • Trouble focusing since before about age 12 that affects your work, study or relationships. Ask your doctor about an ADHD assessment.
  • Breathing that stops and starts in sleep, gasping or choking noises, or feeling very tired every day. This can be sleep apnea.
  • Low mood, no motivation or no interest in things, most of the day, every day, for more than 2 weeks.
  • Trouble concentrating after a head injury that lasts more than 2 weeks.
  • More distracted, or a change in behavior, right after a head injury: emergency help now.
  • Worry or stress most of the time that is hard to control, with trouble concentrating, poor sleep or feeling tense. This can be an anxiety disorder.
  • Tired for a few weeks and not sure why, or tired with weight loss or mood changes. Your doctor can check your blood for anemia, diabetes or an overactive thyroid.
  • Tired and drinking a lot. Cutting the alcohol is one of the first steps for tiredness.
