When to see a doctor
- Low mood, no interest or no enjoyment in anything, not just work, for most of the day, every day, for more than 2 weeks: see your doctor. That can be depression, and it is treated first.
- Exhausted with feeling cold, weight gain, constipation or low mood: ask for a thyroid blood test.
- Exhausted with breathlessness, a pounding heart or pale skin: ask for a blood count and ferritin, for iron.
- Loud snoring, gasping in sleep, tired all day and moody: ask about sleep apnea.
- Low energy with a low sex drive, loss of muscle or erection problems: ask your doctor about a testosterone blood test.
- Drinking more to switch off, or using drugs: tell the doctor. They make stress and mood worse.
- Low mood and poor focus after coming off anabolic steroids: tell the doctor. It is a known withdrawal effect.
- Struggling to cope with stress, or what you are trying is not helping: see your doctor.
