Who it's forA man who took a knock to the head, days or weeks ago, and still has headaches, fog, dizziness or poor sleep.

When to see a doctor
  • Call 911 for a fit, confusion, being hard to wake, new weakness or numbness, trouble speaking or walking, or clear fluid from the nose or ears.
  • A headache that keeps getting worse, vomiting more than once, or pupils of different sizes: call 911, or go straight to the emergency department.
  • On a blood thinner, or bleeding easily, after any head injury: call urgent care or go to the ER today. A scan within 8 hours is considered.
  • Go to the emergency department today for any of these. Memory loss of more than 30 minutes before the hit. A high-risk accident: hit by a vehicle, thrown from one, or a fall from over 3.5 feet (1 meter) or 5 stairs. Bruising round the eyes or behind the ears. Neck pain with tingling in the arms.
  • Were drinking or taking drugs when it happened, or feel dizzy: call urgent care or your doctor today. Do not drive yourself to the emergency department after a head injury.
  • Have an adult stay with you for the first 24 hours. No alcohol, drugs or sleeping pills while you recover unless a doctor advises.
  • Symptoms lasting more than 2 weeks, or not sure whether it is safe to drive, work or play: see your doctor.
  • Symptoms past 4 weeks: ask for referral to a doctor trained in brain injury, or a rehab team. Hormone tests if tiredness and low drive will not lift.
  • No contact sport until symptoms are gone and a doctor clears you.

I am not a doctor. This is not medical advice. This is self-education. Every dose on this page is the one a trial or a label used, quoted from the source. It is not a prescription. Talk to a physician who has your history before anything in the With a doctor group.
